Every Friday morning during the 2018-2019 school year, volunteers pack over 865 bags with healthy snacks which are distributed to 14 elementary schools, California School for the Deaf, and Safehouse, a local facility that assists teens in crisis. These schools then distribute these snack bags to children who are homeless or from low income backgrounds who experience hunger over the weekend. Additionally, books are given along with the snack bags three times during the school year. Last year, 29,000 bags and 2,573 books were provided to 1,036 children.
Denise Garcia at Magnolia Elementary said "Snack Attack bags mean so much to the kids here. It fills them with joy and gives them something special to look forward to each week."
Cindy Cornwell writes "Bryant Elementary appreciates what Assistance League does for our students to make sure they have food to get them through the weekend. Thank you so much."
